You can wash your hair extensions before extending them, as you would normally with a shampoo and conditioner, but be careful to brush the hair extensions gently to avoid shedding. You need to be very gentle during this entire wash process going in with shampoo. It's recommended that you use a sulfate-free shampoo when washing your hair with hair extensions. Because the sulfate contains alcohol and that alcohol is used to take out the tape in the extension. When you go in with conditioner make sure to only get it on hair ends and not hair roots which is no different from washing your hair on a regular.

If you experience any difficulty removing tape in extension glue from your hair, there are several steps that you can take to reduce the risk of damage. You should start by washing your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner. Then, use a gentle soap such as Ivory Soap or Dove Body wash to gently cleanse the glue off of your scalp. Finally, use a wide-toothed comb or brush to remove any remaining pieces of glue from your hair follicles. If you need to take off the other hair extensions will be easier. I-Tip and Micro-Loop extensions need professional tools to remove them, and after that wash your hair as before.
