Beautiful in person

So this is week took for my boho braids. I wear a bonnet every night, after put my hair in to four large twist. Unfortunately during the day, at the end of the day, I have a bit of "sea biscuit " happening with the hair. Considering it's supposed to be home hair, I've tried wetting it and applying conditioner to comb it through. Very tedious event and you end up with a lot of shedding. Any pointers on how to get the hair back to its normal state? Given the expense, I should be able to wear for longer than 2 weeks, with out the hair matting and tangling.
